Rachel Darlene Clark Browning, age 86, of Clinton, Mississippi, died June 8, 2026. Born February 3, 1940, in Seminary, Mississippi, she was the daughter of Arthur Clark and Queenie Clark. Throughout her life, Rachel was deeply beloved, remembered with gratitude for a kind-hearted spirit that quietly strengthened those fortunate enough to know her.
Rachel devoted 30 years to serving as an elementary school teacher, shaping young lives with steady care and patience. Her commitment to education and to the people around her was also reflected in her involvement with professional and community organizations, including ADK, MAE, CAE, and RTA.
On April 28, 1962, Rachel married Robert Browning in Seminary, Mississippi. She is survived by her daughter, Beth Neely (Robbie) of Clinton, Mississippi; her son, Bobby Browning (Kathy) of Clinton, Mississippi; and her sister, Doris Shellabarger (Dave) of Flower Mound, Texas. Mrs. Browning also leaves 5 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Browning, and her 8 siblings.
Visitation will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, Mississippi 39209, on June 12, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A Funeral Service will follow at Lakewood Funeral Home on June 12, 2026, at 11:00 am. Burial will take place at Lakewood Memorial Park, 6000 Clinton Blvd.
There will be a family lunch after the service at Morrison Heights Baptist Church located at 3000 Hampstead Blvd, Clinton, MS 39056.
