Richard Olone Luckett Jr., 78, died peacefully at Baptist Medical Center, Thursday, September 20, 2018. He was born in Madison County, MS on November 16, 1939. He was the son of the late Richard Olone Luckett and Beulah Harkins Luckett.
Richard attended Saint Joseph High School through the ninth grade and graduated from Saint Stanislaus High School, Bay Saint Louis, MS. Using the skills that he learned from his father at an early age, he joined the family business in 1958. He eventually became the sole owner of Luckett Lawn Equipment located on Jayne Avenue in Jackson. In 1992 he sold his business in order to begin a life dedicated to church and community service.
A devout Catholic he was a lifetime member and daily communicant at St. Richard Catholic Church where he glorified and enjoyed the Lord. He became involved in the Catholic Charismatic Movement of New Orleans and attended numerous conferences and retreats throughout the United States. He became a frequent speaker at cursillos and was engaged by the State of Mississippi as a volunteer to conduct weekly prayer services at the state mental hospital and prison facilities at Whitfield. His devotion to the history and teachings of the Bible led him to tour the Holy Land three times.
He was married to Jean Pace Luckett, deceased, and is survived by a son, Lt. Colonel Richard Kieran Luckett U.S. Army, (Karen) of Hattiesburg, five grandchildren, and one great grand child. He also leaves behind his brothers John Michael Luckett (Anne Robin)of Ridgeland and Robert Cratin Luckett (Linda) of Richland, an aunt, Mary Lalande Harkins of Brandon, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Agnes Luckett Patrick, and niece, Whitney Olone Luckett Watkins.
He loved fellowship with his family and friends, especially his Wednesday lunch date with his brothers. He touched many lives and will be solely missed by everyone that knew him.
The family would like to thank Manhattan Nursing Home for the compassionate care they gave “Uncle Bubba” as he was affectionately known.
A private celebration of life was held at St. Richard Catholic Church and Columbarium on Monday, September 24, 2018. Memorials may be made in his honor to St. Richard Special Kids Program.
