
Robert Hilton Denson, Ph D, passed away July 18, 2012 at Hospice Ministries, Inc. in Ridgeland after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Dr. Denson was born in Jackson on March 23, 1930, the only child of Benjamin Byron Denson and Bessie Lee Hilton Denson. He is survived by his loyal and faithful wife of 56 years, Doris Burnham Denson of Jackson, a daughter, Beverly Moore (Mark A.) of Raymond, a daughter, Kimberly Denson of Byram and two grandsons, Ian Moore and Dustin Moore of Raymond.
He graduated Central High School in 1948. In 1954-55 he served in Korea as an army platoon sergeant (SFC) for 18 months. After returning home, he attended MS State University and earned a BS in Industrial Management. In November 1963 he was employed by the Corps of Engineers, Waterways Experiment Station, Concrete Laboratory in Vicksburg. By coordinating his professional work with educational opportunities Dr. Denson earned both a BS in Civil Engineering in 1971 and an MS in Civil Engineering in 1981 from MS State University.
In 1988 Bob was allowed to attend Texas A & M University where he earned a PhD in Civil Engineering. Bob loved research and Civil Engineering and had a long, productive 30 year career as a researcher. He was assigned to projects all over the USA and parts of Europe. After he retired from the Federal Government, he worked an additional five years with the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
He was a member of Pearl Lodge No. 23 and held offices; junior warden, senior warden, and lodge secretary and Master of the lodge. He was 33rd degree Scottish-Rite Mason where he served as secretary of the Jackson Scottish-Rite Bodies for several years with distinction. In addition, he was a member of York-Rite Bodies and Shriners. He was a lifetime member of VFW, American Legion, and NRA. Bob was a lifetime member of the Methodist faith and was a member of Lakeshore Congregational Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice Ministries, Inc. at 450 Towne Center Blvd., Ridgeland, 39157 or to Lakeshore Congregational Methodist Church at 6880 Rd., Byram, 39272.
Visitation is Thursday from 5 pm to 7 pm and Friday from 12 pm to 1pm. Funeral is at 1 pm at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home on High Street. Burial is at Lakewood Memorial Park.
