Robert Earl “Bobby” Flynt, 64, died Saturday, February 28, 2015 at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 3, from 6 until 8 pm at Lakewood Funeral Home on Clinton Blvd in Jackson and Wednesday, March 4, from 1 until 2 pm at Midway Baptist Church on Clinton Blvd. Funeral services will follow at 2 pm at the church, with his brother, Johnny Flynt, officiating.
Bobby was born on May 24, 1950, in Jackson, Ms to Frances Alexander Flynt and John H. Flynt. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church for 25 years where he served as a deacon and also spent a few years as youth and recreation minister.
A 1968 graduate of Provine High School, Bobby was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds baseball organization and played two years in their minor league program. He later graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi and was an avid Golden Eagle fan. Bobby retired from the City of Jackson where he worked for 24 years as an assistant sports director with the Department of Parks and Recreation. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, softball, watching sports and spending time with his grandchildren.
Bobby was preceded in death by his father, mother and sister, Vicki Flynt Pace.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Lynn Heasley Flynt of Clinton; his brother, Johnny Flynt (Joann) of Oxford; his sons, Brian Flynt (Sonya) of Hamilton, MS and Christ Flynt of Pocahontas; a stepson, Joey Vinzant (Amy) of Pelahatchie; grandchildren, Zachary and Brison Flynt; Hunter Flynt; Brittney, Peyton and Reagan Vinzant.
Memorials may be made to the Friends of Alcoholics in Pocahontas, MS. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation of service to a community or church organization of your choice or extend help to a specific person or family in need, Bobby would have liked that.
