

Sandra Harrison Apostolos, a beloved sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on August 19, 2025, at the age of 76, from a respiratory illness. Born on March 14, 1949, to Robert E. Harrison and Mary Gibbs Harrison, Sandra was a beacon of light and inspiration to all who knew her.
Sandra was educated in the Jackson Public Schools and early in childhood developed a love for music and dance. She learned to play the alto saxophone and nurtured that talent into participation in the marching bands in school. She served as the Drum Majorette her junior year at Provine High School, as well as her senior year at Wingfield High School. She went on to graduate from the University of Mississippi in 1971 with a Liberal Arts Degree, majoring in Theater and English. During her time at Ole Miss, she was an active member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority, the Ole Miss Rebelettes, and the University Dancers, showcasing her passion for the arts and her vibrant spirit.
After a brief period teaching high school English, Sandra embarked on a 14-year career as a flight attendant with United Air Lines, based in Chicago, IL. Her career allowed her to fulfill her dream of traveling the world, visiting Europe, Asia, Africa, Japan, the Middle East, and many other destinations. Her travels enriched her life and fueled her love for collecting antiques and art from around the globe.
In the late 1980s, marriage moved Sandra to the New Orleans area, where she immersed herself in the local art, music, and theater scene. She was an avid dancer and aspired to be an actress, always embracing life with enthusiasm and grace.
Sandra’s love for books led her to a fulfilling career as a librarian for the last 14 years of her life. She was dedicated to helping children develop their reading skills and instilling in them a lifelong love of learning.
A strong woman of faith, Sandra was a devout Christian who loved the Lord and her church, Munholland Methodist Church in Metairie, LA. She was a devoted Sunday School teacher, Bible Study leader, and church volunteer, always eager to share her faith and serve her community.
Sandra was preceded in death by her daughter, Anastasia Marie Apostolos, and parents, Robert E. and Mary Harrison. She is survived by her brother, Robert Harrison (Cindy) of Madison, MS; her nieces, Lauren Ledbetter (William) of Birmingham, AL, and Leslie DeMoss (Trip) of Nashville, TN; and four great nieces, one great nephew, and one grandson, all of whom will cherish her memories and the love she shared with them.
Sandra’s love for gardening was evident in her beautiful flower beds filled with lilies, gardenias, roses, and irises. Her legacy of kindness, faith, and passion for life will continue to inspire those who knew her.
The family would like to thank the CCU medical staff, doctors and nurses at East Jefferson General Hospital, Metairie, LA for their excellent care and attention while Sandra was there. And also many thanks and appreciation go out to CEO Cris Bourn at Select Specialty Hospital – Belhaven, Jackson, MS and his outstanding medical staff of doctors and nurses that treated Sandra while she spent time there.
The funeral service for Sandra was held at Lakewood Funeral Home, Jackson, MS on August 29, 2025. Grave side services immediately followed at Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery. The Celebration of Life Service for Sandra will be held on September 19th, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at her home church, Munholland Methodist Church, Metairie, LA. A reception for family and friends of Sandra, will be held immediately following the church service, in the fellowship hall of the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Memphis, TN; Munholland Methodist Church, Metairie, LA; or Samaritan’s Purse, Boone, NC, in honor of Sandra’s commitment to education, Christian spirit and her community service.
Sandra Harrison Apostolos will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
