Sue B Hoggatt, 90, of Braxton, Mississippi, passed away on July 25, 2026. Born April 16, 1936, in Braxton, MS, Sue was the daughter of Johnnie J. and Lela Traylor Berry and was later lovingly guided by her stepmother, Edna (Granny) Berry.
In recent years, Sue attended Holy Grove Baptist Church in Braxton, MS. She also attended Star Baptist Church in Star, MS, where she enjoyed Sunday School and the preaching of Bro. Vic. For 35 years, Sue attended Midway Baptist Church with her husband, where she raised her children and cherished the church family and friends who became part of her life’s steady foundation.
Sue found deep contentment in simple, faithful joys—her flower gardens, her yard, and her John Deere mower. She delighted in time outdoors and in the warmth of company, always ready to welcome family and friends and to share flowers from her yard. Above all, Sue loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with a devotion that anchored her life. She was known for a beautiful smile—one that remained with her even in sickness, offered freely to those caring for her.
Sue retired from Mississippi College in Clinton, MS after 25 years of service, valuing both the work and the people she came to know there.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Edna (Granny) Berry; her husband, Ira Eugene Hoggatt; her son, Berry Elton Hoggatt; her sisters, Ann Berry and Virginia Barnes; and her brother, Lynn Berry.
Sue is survived by her daughters, Paula Madden of Cocoa Beach, FL, and Sue Ellen Hillhouse (John) of Braxton, MS; her son, Gene Hoggatt (Jamie) of Terry, MS; her daughter-in-law, Nicole McKenna of Pensacola, FL; her grandchildren, Amber, Greg, David, Sharron, and Trey; her great-grandchildren, Jaylin, Kyden, Wren, Cassidy, Caley, Phoniex, and Tianna; and her brothers, Ray Berry (Gail) of Florence, MS, James Berry (Diane) of Braxton, MS, and Elton Berry of Wesson, MS, along with numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, Mississippi 39209, on July 30, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and again on July 31, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home, on July 31, 2026, at 11:00 am. A Committal Service will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
