

Mrs. Thelma Nichols Rountree passed away in Jackson, MS on July 16, 2011 at the age of 92. She was born on February 14, 1919 in Holly Bluff, MS where she grew up and went to school. She married in 1940 and later enjoyed a long employment with Sears & Roebuck in Jackson from which she retired at age 65. She was a member of Crestwood Baptist Church for many years and more recently at Oak Forest Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Thomas Nichols and Anna Nichols Rayburn; her brothers, William T. "Junior" Nichols, Jr. and Elton H. Nichols; and her sisters, Mae Thiel, Roma Jean Whiting, and Joan Fowler.
Mrs. Rountree is survived by her husband of 70 years, D.W. Rountree; her sons Rodney Neil Rountree, his wife Linda; William D. "Bill" Rountree; John Michael Rountree and his wife Pam; and daughter Alice Janetta Rountree Whiteman and her husband Gary; grandsons Rodney Rountree Jr., Rusty Rountree, Steven Rountree, Adam and Micah Cid; grandaughters Kelly Rountree Barnett and her husband Greg, Holly Rountree Evans and her husband Butch, Michael Rountree Larsen and her husband Lars; and Jennifer Rountree; and great grandchildren Alissa, Steven, Carly, Landon, Arianna and Adam, II.
The family extends a very sincere thank you to special friends Martha Turner and Patricia and Milton Baylis, and Mrs. Rountree's niece, Cynthia Fuller, for their many extra efforts of assistance to both Mr. and Mrs. Rountree.
Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on July 18 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home at 5235 Robinson Rd. in Jackson, MS. Funeral services will be held at the same location on July 19 at 11 am. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park and the family will receive guests afterwards at the fellowship hall at Oak Forest Baptist Church, 2875 Oak Forest Dr. In Jackson. Pallbearers will be Tom Colwell, Frank Fuller, David Hussy, Adam and Micah Cid, and Steven Rountree.
