She was the widow of Charles F. Black, who passed away on July 26, 2011 after 55 years of marriage. Born in Marshall County, MS on September 11, 1936 to Joseph Billy and Eunice Feathers of Rossville, TN, Yvonne attended school in Moscow, TN and finished high school in Fayette County, TN.
Yvonne and her beloved husband Charles owned and operated Black’s Grocery Store on South Drive for more than 30 years prior to continuing work as a Walmart greeter for 16 years in Clinton, MS. She and Charles were members of West Jackson Baptist Church for 40 years, Horizon Community Church, and Broadmoor Baptist Church. Most recently, Yvonne was a shut-in member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church of Ridgeland, MS for the last 3 years.
Yvonne loved her friends and family deeply, and she cherished her Ladies' Sunday School group of friendships over the past 50 years. Most of all, her relationship with Jesus, her Savior, was the source of her remarkable joy, strength, and peace. Yvonne joyfully befriended many people, gently yet emphatically telling them how "Jesus really loves you." As she experienced peace first-hand through life's many trials, Yvonne desired for everyone on earth to have peace through a relationship with God (Romans 15:13).
Yvonne is predeceased by her parents and two younger sisters, Bobbie Lynn Daughtry and Doris Graves, both of Memphis, TN; and one younger brother, Jimmy Wayne Feathers of Houston, TX. She is survived by her beloved younger brother, Ennis (Barbara) Feathers of Brandon, MS; son, Charles David Black of Madison, MS; daughter, Kathy Black (Gary) Maze of Madison, MS; grandson, Josh (Stacie) Maze; granddaughter, Karleigh (Daniel) Wagner; and great-grandchildren, Stella Wagner and James Maze.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Yvonne's honor can be made to Colonial Heights Baptist Church's Mission Fund (444 Northpark Drive; Ridgeland, MS 39157) for the purpose of reaching unreached people groups with the hope of Jesus.
