

Ada Marie Roland of Jackson, passed away on October 5, 2010 in Jackson at the age of 85 years. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 9, 2010, at her home church, Skyline Church of Christ with Father Chuck Filiatreau, of All Saints Anglican Church, and Nick Pappas, Director of Youth Town officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Roland grew up in Pulaski, TN the daughter of the late William Harris Cheek, and Ada Bralliar Cheek. She attended the Giles County Schools where she was a Varsity Basketball Player, Majorette, and All- State band member, and was Valedictorian of her graduating class. She was also first runner-up to Junior Miss Tennessee.
She attended George Peabody College in Nashville where she sang in the Peabody Chorus and played Saxophone and Clarinet with the Chattanooga Symphony. She met and married her roommate’s brother, Grady Paul Roland, who preceded her in death. She moved with her husband to Jackson, TN in 1949 when they bought Jackson Dairy Products Company, the West Tennessee distributor of Sealtest Milk. She worked with her husband as the company’s bookkeeper until the business was sold. She then became the Office Manager/ Financial Secretary at St. Lukes Episcopal Church for the next 14 years. She retired at the age of 74, in 1999 to spend more time with her children and grandchildren, who were the joy of her life.
She loved traveling and playing card games, especially Bridge, and was an active member of three Bridge clubs. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed yearly trips to the Beach.
She is survived by a son, William Paul Roland (Fran) of Chattanooga, TN; six daughters, Claudia Mimi Voss-Allen (Tommy) of Jackson, Lynn Pappas(Nick) of Jackson, Kathy Smith (Gary) of Franklin ,TN, Nancy Todd (Charles) of Lawrenceville, GA, Joyce Barrett (Alan) of Old Hickory, TN and Becky Dodson (Marty) of Franklin, TN; 17 grandchildren, 21 Great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Roland was preceded in death by a sister, Ellene Cheek Deane and a brother, William Harris Cheek Jr.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm- 8:00 pm on Friday, October 8th , 2010 at George A. Smith and Sons North Chapel, and resuming on Saturday October 10th at Skyline Church Of Christ from 10:00 am until Service time at 11:00 am
