Barbara was born and raised in Franklin, TN, the daughter of Fred and Julia Carr Isaacs of Franklin.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, John New, Sr; two sons, John New, Jr. and wife Ginger of Jackson, TN and Brad New of Knoxville, TN. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Frances New of Dallas, TX, Nicole New of Indianapolis, IN, and John New III (Jack) of Jackson; a brother, Chuck Isaacs and wife Cathy of Franklin and several nieces and nephews.
Barbara was a graduate of Franklin High School and Lambuth College where she was sweetheart of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Upon graduation, she taught school in the public school system for 9 years, then spending some 35 years assisting her husband in his private appraisal business.
She was an active member of First United Methodist Church until her illness. She also helped the Red Cross and the American Heart Association on an annual basis; but most of all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker.
She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends who will miss her love of family, wit, impersonations for WHBQ Radio and phone calls to friends.
Visitation for Barbara will be held on Monday, May 13, 2024 from 1-3 p.m. in Disciple Hall of First United Methodist Church followed by graveside services at Hollywood Cemetery.
Memorials in her memory may be made to First United Methodist Church, University School of Jackson, or RIFA.
