Bonnie was born on April 27, 1946, in Jackson, Tennessee, to the late Verlie Jernigan and Frances McCommon Jernigan.
For many years, Bonnie worked as an Office Administrator for the Tennessee Valley Authority. Her career afforded her the opportunity to travel frequently on behalf of the company, and she devoted many years of service to her work.
Bonnie had a deep love for animals and throughout her life owned seven wolf-hybrid dogs, as well as a couple of cats. She was a loving and caring person who treasured her family, friends, and neighbors and held those relationships close to her heart.
In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by her daughter, Conni Cowan; her son-in-law, Chris Cowan; her grandson, Ryan Cowan; and her brother, James Jernigan.
She is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Special recognition is given to her niece, Joyce Jernigan Moore, for the devoted care and support she provided to Bonnie.
A graveside service to celebrate the life of Bonnie Jernigan Powell will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Ridgecrest Cemetery. Burial will follow the service.
