Butch was born on October 15, 1929 to the late Harold and Mae Cashon, Sr. in Jackson, TN. He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Jackson.
Butch was educated in the Jackson City School System, graduated from Jackson High School in 1947. He attended Davidson College in North Carolina where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He also attended The University of Mississippi where he was a member of the Ole Miss Rebels cheerleading squad. He served in The Armed Forces of The United States stationed at Fort Benning, GA.
Butch returned to Jackson in early 1954. He married Gay Rush, also of Jackson, in the fall of 1954.
Butch was associated with L.K. Rush Co. from 1955 to 1965. He started his own specialty advertising business, Cashon Advertising, in 1965. He retired in 2008.
Butch was an avid golfer winning many golf tournaments over the years. He especially enjoyed mentoring the young golfers in the Jackson area and continued doing so after he could no longer play golf. He enjoyed duck hunting and fishing with his wife for many years as well.
Other than his parents, Butch was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Virginia Lee and Fred Young, Jr., brother-in-law, Donald Hannafee, Sr. and Donnie Stegall, Sr., and father and mother-in-law, Kelso and Christine Rush.
Survivors include his wife, Gay Cashon; daughters, Patricia “Tricia” Cashon and Carolann Austin (Gary); grandchildren, Christina Austin, Gary Austin, Jr. (Meredith), Carl Bateman, III (Angela), Carly Lannin (Jay), Clay Bateman (Katie), Brandon Bateman (Marija), and three great grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sister, Jeanne C. Hannafee; sister-in-law, Pat Stegall; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved.
The family would like to send a special thanks to his doctors, caregivers, and many friends who have been most thoughtful and kind throughout his illness.
Funeral services for Butch will be conducted on Saturday, July 18, 2015 from the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons, with interment to follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home on Saturday morning.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be directed to First United Methodist Church, 200 South Church St., Jackson, TN 38301, Hospice of West Tennessee, 1804 Hwy 45 Bypass, Ste. 100, Jackson, TN 38305 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
