Carlene attended West Tennessee Business college and trained as a stenographer. She worked for various places, including Holiday Inn corporate offices headquarters in Memphis, Tennessee, BellSouth, Jackson Tennessee, and later the Bible bookstore in South Jackson, Tennessee. She was proficient in these positions and was well-versed in shorthand and could type over 90 words a minute. Carlene appreciated wittiness in people and had a wonderful sense of humor herself.
Despite multiple medical issues over the last 20 years, Carlene always remained very positive. She was definitely a woman of faith, and with that, over the years, grew to demonstrate her own unique understanding, distinguishing between religion and spirituality. In her later years, Carlene was a resident at St Mary's Manor in Jackson Tennessee, Cades Assisted Living in South Jackson, Tennessee, and finally Maplewood Healthcare Center, in Jackson Tennessee.
Carlene was widowed from her second husband Donald Appleby in 1995.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Rose Inman (Raymond T Doyle Jr a.k.a. “Chip“), of Arlington, Virginia; her son, Lance Randle Inman of Jackson, Tennessee; and her granddaughter Gina Marie Inman of Somerville, Tennessee.
Carlene will be sorely missed, but we know she is now resting in peace.
A memorial visitation to celebrate the life of Carlene Appleby will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026 from 2-4 p.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend.
