Jackie is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers William Kelly Smythe (Teruko), Gary Wayne Smythe.

At a very early age Jackie was trained as a brick mason, and eventually established his own business called Smyth Brick Masonry Company employing others who work with him on residential and commercial jobs. No job was ever too small or too big. Jackie was very happy to later welcome his son Tony as a partner in his company. Jackie and Tony were much sought-after brick masons in Jackson, Madison County, and the surrounding area. They did beautiful brickwork! Jackie was a brick mason for 40 + years. He was an active third-degree mason in the St. Johns Masonic Lodge #332 in Jackson TN where he held the office as the Tyler. Jackie was a member of the Lambuth Memorial United Methodist Church for many years. In his younger years he was active in the Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF), he played Church league basketball and was in the Church Boy Scout troop. From a child and into his adult life he enjoyed a variety of water sports from boating, swimming, water skiing, and jet skiing. He’s been many happy hours on the Tennessee River as a child and as an adult with his own family as husband, father and grandfather. A big interest and love for Jackie and Hazel was horses. Jackie enjoyed riding for many years. Through the love of horses is how he met his wife, Hazel. Jackie also enjoyed motorcycling whether it be a two wheel, or Trike.
