
He was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, the son of the late Dan N. Childress and Martha Parker Childress. Dan graduated from Hillcrest High School in Memphis as a member of the Class of 1968 and went on to attend the University of Memphis. In his younger years, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, an accomplishment that reflected his lifelong values of dedication, service, and integrity.
Dan spent many years working at MHC Kenworth in Jackson, where he was known for his strong work ethic and friendly nature. He retired in 2012. Outside of work, he had a deep love for motorcycles and enjoyed the freedom of the open road. He was also a faithful member of Fellowship Bible Church.
He is survived by his loving wife, Eva Hawley Childress; his daughter, Jennifer Griggs (Elton); his grandchildren, Trey Griggs (Kacey) and Beau Griggs (Sarah); and his great-grandchildren, Ellie Griggs and Emmett Griggs. He is also survived by his sister, Linda Futris (the late George).
In addition, he leaves behind his stepson, Jeffrey Thornton (Linda); step-grandchildren, Christopher Thornton, Shelby White (Codie), and Hannah Thornton; and step-great-grandchildren, Allison Thornton, Baylee Thornton, Landon Thornton, and Walker White.
In keeping with his wishes, no services will be held at this time.
Dan will be remembered for his steady presence, his love for his family, and the simple joys that meant the most to him.
