She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Elder (Steve), grandchildren Ashley Elder Garrison (Wes) and Ben Elder, along with two great grandchildren.
Doris was born May 13, 1943 in Bemis, TN to the late Luther Ben Hammers and Arby Jordan Hammers. She retired as office manager for West Tennessee Pediatric Dentistry.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Willie D. “Bill” Gates, brother Ben “Pedro” Hammers Jr., and sister Mary Evelyn Holland.
A private family burial was held at New Union Cemetery in Medon, TN with George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Charge
