Dr. Binbin Lin

Dr. Binbin Lin, 39, of Jackson, Tennessee passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital on Sunday, April 1, 2018 after a valiant year long struggle with cancer.

Binbin was born in Xiamen, China on December 1, 1978 and after graduating with a Master of Science degree from Jimei University in Xiamen emigrated to Blacksburg, Virginia where she earned her Ph.D in Plant Pathology at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. While at Virginia Tech she was instrumental in establishing a bible study group for Chinese students utilizing bibles printed in their language. One of her favorite biblical passages was: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40:31)

She is survived by her husband Dr. Hao Yu and two daughters; Lucia (five) and Sophia (three.) Other survivors include her father Caihui Lin and mother Chunqiong Chen as well as her mother-in-law Jiyun Zhu.

Beginning in 2015, Binbin started work as a Postdoctorial Associate at the University of Tennessee's West Tennessee Research and Education Center in Jackson. Binbin was a member of the American Phytopathological Society and the Southern Soybean Disease Workers. She presented her research at multiple conferences and published peer reviewed articles in several journals. She loved her work and was a voracious researcher in plant pathology. Binbin was an indispensable component in studying fungicide resistance and monitoring disease levels in Tennessee field crops, being industrious, conscience, and diligent in every project she worked on. Her work ethic, positive attitude and great ambition to succeed was an inspiration.

Binbin's family invites friends who knew and loved her to celebrate her life and grieve her passing on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Noon at George A. Smith and Sons North Chapel. A visitation will be from 11:00 AM until time of service.
