

The private family graveside service with David Comperry officiating will be held this Friday at Ridgecrest Cemetery in Jackson, TN at 11:00am.
The daughter of Allie and John Cline Carpenter, she was born October 10, 1923 in Charlotte, NC and moved to Jackson, TN in 1924 where she was a resident until she moved to Nashville in 2016. She graduated from Jackson High School in 1940. She attended Union University where she was a member and officer of Chi Omega Fraternity and was Queen of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.
In 1942 she married William Daniel McCarthy who predeceased her in 1968. During WWII she worked in Norfolk, VA at Naval Station Supply Depot. Upon her return to Jackson, she worked at McKeller Field for the U.S. Army Flight Training Facility.
She was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church, was a member of Dick Nunn Sunday School class and Methodist Women’s Missionary Society. She worked as a travel consultant for many years and traveled extensively throughout the world. She was a member of Jackson Country Club where she was a past president of the Women’s Golf Association. She was one of the founders of the Jackson-Madison County Hospital Auxiliary and a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. She enjoyed working at the hospital, golf, bridge, and travel.
She was married in 1975 to Robert D. Marsden who preceded her in death in 2002.
She is survived by her son John Michael McCarthy of Atlanta, GA and her daughter Molly McCarthy Boyd of Nashville, TN; 4 grandchildren, Shawn McCarthy Barbee, Shannan McCarthy Gaudette, Heather Boyd Craig and David McCarthy Boyd; 9 great grandchildren Sterling Ruffin Craig III, Karson Leigh Gaudette, Brendan Michael Gaudette, Haley Elizabeth Gaudette, Caden Richard Gaudette, Elizabeth Luella Craig, Olivia Ann Craig, Alexis Virginia Barbee and Taylor McCarthy Barbee.
She was preceded in death by her brother John Cline Carpenter Jr. and her sister Glyn Anne Carpenter Smiley.
