Elizabeth S. Martin stepped into eternity on Monday December 17, 2018. Born June 13, 1929; Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband Mr. W.P. Martin. Mrs. Martin was a long-time clerk at Kisber’s Department Store transitioning with the store from the original downtown Jackson location to the anchor store at Old Hickory Mall. Affectionately known as “Biggie” by her nieces, nephews, grandniece and grand nephews, Mrs. Martin was always ready for a competitive but friendly card game of Rook or Rummy. Mrs. Martin was always independent and strong. In recent years, Mrs. Martin’s health declined, she moved to Maplewood Healthcare Center where she enjoyed playing bingo, one of her other life-long favorite games. Mrs. Martin was a member of Parkview Baptist Church whose love, care and prayers comforted her into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
“Biggie” is survived by her sister Mildred Dailey, Robert of Jackson; her brother James “Sonny” Sumler, Janice of Jackson; niece Ann Bell of Memphis, TN; nephews Robert Dailey, Cindy of Villa Rica, GA and Andrew Dailey, Beth of Huntersville, NC. Others preceding Mrs. Martin in death were her parents L.V and Linnie Sumler and her niece Denise Sumler. Visitation to be held 12:00-1:00pm on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at Smith’s Funeral Home North Chapel with celebration of life service to follow. Burial will be at Ridgecrest Cemetery.
