Evelyn Blanche Chadbourne

Born on August 27, 1931, in Anderson, Indiana, Evelyn was the cherished daughter of Avis and Fred King. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity that touched the lives of all who knew her.

Evelyn's life was a testament to love and dedication. She married her college sweetheart, Horace "Chad" Chadbourne, on June 10, 1956, in Anderson. Together, they celebrated seventy joyful years of marriage, sharing countless adventures and creating a warm and loving home for their family.

Educated at Anderson High School, Evelyn graduated in 1949. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics and a master’s degree in Guidance Counseling from Ball State Teachers College. Evelyn devoted 33 years to teaching in the Anderson Community School System, retiring in 1988. Her passion for education and guidance touched the lives of numerous students.

Evelyn was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Anderson, where she served as a leader in the United Methodist Youth Fellowship. Her dedication extended beyond the church, as she was a Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, a volunteer with the Victoria Guild at St. John's Hospital, member and advisor of Sigma Kappa Sorority, and a member of P.E.O.

Her love for life was evident in her hobbies and interests. Evelyn was a world traveler. Her early years were spent traveling by camping with her family and friends visiting all 50 states. In retirement she enjoyed exploring new places with her children and grandchildren. She also held the unique honor of being the oldest Junior Ranger at Grand Teton National Park. Evelyn enjoyed collecting cookbooks and sharing her love of cooking, passing along her skills to her children, grandchildren, and many students.

Evelyn is survived by her devoted husband, Chad, her children Denise (Greg) Stuart and Steve (Sueanne) Chadbourne, and her treasured grandchildren, Nicholas (Shelby) Stuart, Benjamin (Olivia) Stuart, Thomas Chadbourne, and William Chadbourne. Her great-grandchildren, Vivienne, Brody, and Samuel, will carry forward her spirit and love. She is also survived by her nieces, Patty Skelton and Penny Chaille. Evelyn was predeceased in death by her parents Avis and Fred King, and her brother William (Joan) King.

A celebration of Evelyn's life will take place on August 7, 2026. Visitation will take place from 11:00 to 1:00, with the funeral service immediately following at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Home located at 229 S. Rangeline Road, Anderson, Indiana.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Brookdale Jackson Oaks and Gentiva Hospice in Jackson, Tennessee, for their compassionate care.
