Ike was born on April 23, 1932 in Brownsville, TN to the late Isaac Edward and Winnie Mable White Castellaw. He moved to Jackson at five years old and graduated from Jackson High School. He enlisted in the United States Army and served his country in Korea. He worked in construction for Hubert M. Owen Construction. He worked for the Jackson Police Department for eleven years as a Juvenile Officer, until going to work for Owens Corning Fiberglass in Personnel and Safety until his retirement after twenty years of service. After retirement, he continued to work for Williams Steel Company and H & M Construction, both in safety.
Ike loved working with the youth and sports and helped mentor many while helping with Jackson High School and Lambuth College sports programs for many years. He was honored with the 2009 Jackson-Madison County Sports Hall of Fame Distinguished Service Award. Lambuth University names their Hall of Fame Center “Ike’s Place” in his honor.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Caradine and Marie Jones.
He is survived by his sister, Jean Kirby of Bells, TN and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and loved ones at a visitation to be held on Monday, October 5, 2020 from 11 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. Following visitation, a graveside service will be held at Highland Memorial Gardens at 1 p.m. Pastor Andy Neely, Senior Pastor of West Jackson Baptist Church, where Ike was a long-time member, will officiate.
