

Jack Turner was born on March 14, 1931, in Humboldt, Tennessee. He attended Fairview Elementary and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1950. A proud veteran and a devoted family man, Jack passed away peacefully on May 19, 2025, at the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Humboldt.
He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Turner, and his children: Thomas Turner (Dana), Jim Simpson (Mary Elizabeth), Leta Webb (Kirby), Amy Mistric (Buddy), Lori Jones, and Lisa DeSpain. He was blessed with a large and loving family, including 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great- grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Lena Turner, his son Scott Turner, three brothers, and four sisters.
A man who cherished the outdoors, Jack found joy in gardening, yard work, canning vegetables, camping, hunting, and fishing. He was one of the best cooks around and enjoyed cooking for his family & friends. He became locally known for growing some of the best tomatoes in the region, so good that people traveled far just to get them. As a member of First Baptist Church of Jackson, he enjoyed singing in the choir. He performed in The Living Christmas Tree for many years.
Alongside his wife Beverly, Jack enjoyed dancing and was an active member of a square-dancing group. His faith was a cornerstone of his life. At just 10 years old, during a service at Antioch Baptist Church, Jack felt the call of God and made the life-changing decision to accept Jesus as his Savior. On December 7, 1941, he began a lifelong journey of faith that guided everything he did. Jack was known for his warmth, kindness, and genuine interest in others. He never met a stranger and took time to truly listen to everyone he encountered.
In high school, Jack was a proud member of the Humboldt basketball team that won the 1949 State Championship. He also played football and was active in the school band, all while working daily on the family farm. After graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served in the Korean War. While stationed in Japan, he climbed Mount Fuji, a feat that became one of his cherished memories. Farming remained a lifelong passion. Jack cultivated cotton, soybeans, and vegetables on his own land before transitioning into a successful career in real estate as a realtor, broker, and appraiser. He also worked with the Forked Deer Water Basin Authority. No matter the role, Jack was known for his integrity, hard work, and willingness to help others.
Jack’s life was one of service, joy, and deep-rooted love for his family, his faith, and his community. His legacy lives on in each of his family members. His warmth and generosity will be greatly missed.
The family requests that memorials be directed to First Baptist Church, Jackson, 1627 North Highland Ave. Jackson, TN. 38301.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at 11:30 am in the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. prior to the service.
