James Edward Singleton, age 86, died at home on Sunday, February 2, 2014 surrounded by family after a long illness. Jim was born in Saltillo, TN on September 18, 1927, the only child of the late Grady and Wilma Singleton. He was a veteran and served in the US Army for 2 1/2 years during WWII. Upon discharge, he married Dean Thompson and they settled in Jackson, TN. Jim attended West Tennessee Business College and retired from Owens Corning Fiberglass as a Production Engineer after 20 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church for over 45 years. Jim was an avid fisherman whose favorite spot was the Tennessee River at Saltillo where he grew up. In his later years, he enjoyed visiting and walking with friends at the mall. One of his favorite Bible verses was II Timothy 4:7, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." Jim was a loving husband and father and while reserved, he possessed a great sense of humor enjoyed by his friends and family. Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years, Loudean Thompson Singleton; a son, Mike Singleton (Sandra) of Jackson; two daughters, Pam Singleton McCorkle of Jackson and Lori Singleton of Spring Hill, TN; His three grandchildren, Ellen Singleton of Nashville, Steve Singleton of Nashvile, and J.D. McCorkle of Jackson were a source of great pride. Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. in the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home. There will be a graveside service at Ridgecrest Cemetery on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at 11 a.m., with Bro. Dan Bruce officiating. Military honors will be observed. Mrs. Singleton, Mike and family - I am so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. He never failed to make me smile regardless of the day. I have very fond memories of my time around Jim, and yes he even took me fishing down in Saltilo.
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
