

James was born on August 22, 1935 in Hickman County, TN, the son of the late James Edward and Fanny Elizabeth Pruit Steward. He was retired from Packaging Corporation of America after 44 years. James was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church for 47 years. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Fay Nichols Steward; daughter, Anita Steward Vinson; grandson, Jeffery Vinson; and son in law, Richard (Rick) Haan.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Langley Steward; daughter, Cynthia (Cindy) Steward Haan; grandson, William (Jamie) Vinson; and granddaughters, Rebecca Haan Viverette (John), Sara Haan, and Jennifer Vinson Wray (Todd); seven great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
James is also survived by Shirley’s family, his beloved second family whom he called his adopted family.
The family will receive friends and loved ones on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 from 5-7 p.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. The funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at 1 p.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons with burial to follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers to serve will be Todd Wray, Kurtis Wray, William Vinson, Keith Andrews, Clay Easley, and Briggs Easley.
