

Joan was born in Cook County Chicago, IL on June 3, 1951 to Bill and Mary London. She graduated Immaculatta High School in 1969 and went on to receive a bachelor’s degree as an honor graduate, and master’s degree in 1979 from the University of Illinois, Chicago Circle. Joan also received a certificate in Legal Technology – Criminal Law in 1980 from Harper College.
She was employed at the Cook County State’s attorney’s office from 1974 to 2002 in the criminal division until she transferred to the child support division. Joan lived most of her life in Chicago until her family decided to settle in Jackson, TN in 2002. Upon moving to Tennessee and realizing retirement was not for her, she went back to work for the Jackson District Attorney’s office judicial division in September, 2011 as a child support specialist II.
Joan was passionate about many things which included cooking, entertaining, and her pets, but most importantly taking care of and spending time with her family. Joan was kind to everyone who crossed her path and never had a bad word to say about anyone. She was an inspiration to many and will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.
Joan was married to the love of her life Herbert Bays on June 27th, 1981. Joan and Herbert were blessed with two beautiful and wonderful sons; Herbert Jr. in April 1983, and Eric in June, 1988.
She was preceded in death by her mother Mary, her father Bill, and Brother; Arthur London.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Herbert, her two Sons; Herbert Jr. and Eric, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and most beloved friends.
The immediate family would like to extend their appreciation to all of the friends and family thru this difficult time.
