He was the son of Joe Howell McMurry, Sr., and Bessie Gordon McMurry.
He is survived by his three children, six grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia “Ginny” Steen McMurry.
Mr. McMurry, “Joe” as he was called, graduated from Illinois University with BA in Agriculture.
Mr. McMurry served in the European Theatre during World War II as a rifleman.
His first job was as County Agent for McNairy County. He went on to work for Swift and Company for 20 years as a livestock buyer and finished his career working for the State of Tennessee with the Obion Forked Deer Basin Authority as an Easement Acquisition Coordinator.
A memorial service will be held at George A. Smith and Sons North Chapel on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 11 a.m.
