John was born on October 30, 1924 in Bemis Madison County, Tennessee to the late William Jessie Carden and the late Bertha Mae Bishop Carden. He graduated from J B Young School in Bemis and from West Tennessee Business College, Jackson. He retired in 1983 from the former Conalco Aluminum Corporation.
He was a veteran of the United States Army serving as a Staff Sergeant as part of Quartermaster Depot Company in World War II. He served in both the European and Pacific Theaters earning good conduct medal and two bronze service stars.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 78 years, Jewel Deming Carden whom he married on June 20, 1943. They shared a love of antique collecting and lamp restoration. Together they ran John's Lamp Shop specializing in Aladdin lamps for over 40 years. He was affectionately know as the “Lamp Man” of Jackson. He was truly an honorable man and loved to share his knowledge and stories of the past.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by sisters Larue Carden Frye and Marie Carden Haltom. He is survived by son David Bruce Carden and daughter Jamie Carden Boone (Bruce) and beloved granddaughter Amanda Boone Holmes (Kurt). Nephew Richard Frye and niece Teresa Haltom.
A graveside service at Highland Memorial gardens with military honors will be held on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at 1:00 pm. George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
