

Mr. Phillips was a longtime member of Forest Heights United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities, such as on the Chairman of the Building Committee and as Chairman of the Board. In later years, he attended the First United Methodist Church, Lexington, Tennessee.
He worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority for thirty-six years, including eight years as Western District Manager for the Division of Energy Use and distributor Relations in Jackson, Tennessee. After retiring, he worked for several years at the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Mr. Phillips served for two years in the United States Army at the end of World War II and during the occupation of Germany.
He attended the University of Tennessee Junior College at Martin and graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1950 with a degree in electrical engineering. He was a licensed engineer in the State of Tennessee.
Mr. Phillips was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 6496. He and his wife Dorothy were avid dancers at the VFW Post and elsewhere.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy; son Dr. John B. Phillips (Cathey) of Parsons; daughters, Dr. Susan Buckelew (Dennis) of Union City and Leanne Laub (Mark) of Bartlett; six grandsons; seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Joe Phillips of Parsons, Tennessee.
Visitation will be Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel.
Service will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel. Burial will follow in the Sardis Cemetery.
