

He was born March 16, 1930 in the family farmhouse in Polk County, Missouri. After high school he joined the United States Air Force, where he served as an electronics instructor. While not an official Air Force Pilot, he bought a used Taylor Cub and taught himself to fly.
He joined IBM in 1950 where he worked for 34 years. He retired in 1984 to teach at Jackson State Community College, retiring again 14 years later as an assistant professor.
He served as an elder and teacher for over three decades at East Chester Church of Christ and Campbell Street Church of Christ, then helped to start Madison County Church of Christ to serve the growing community of northeast Madison County.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Florence Campbell of Mentone, California.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Yvonne Gail Reaves Campbell; two sons, Wes (K Leigh) Campbell and Tony (Christie) Campbell; two daughters, Cheryl (Gary) Avent and Sheila Vanhoose Campbell; four grandsons, Drew Campbell, Reed Avent, Jackson Campbell and Carson Campbell; two granddaughters, Amanda Feldpausch and Anna Campbell; a brother, Dwaine (Carol) Campbell; a sister, Darlene (Lewis) Powers; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors and former students.
Johnny Walter Campbell, age 85, passed away on May 23, 2015 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital after a brief illness.

In keeping with his wishes, no viewing or funeral service will be held, and his ashes will be scattered privately. A memorial service is being planned at Madison County Church of Christ; details will be announced on his memorial website at johnnywcampbell.com.
