Linda Gail Ross

Born on May 15, 1948, in Jackson, Tennessee, Linda was the daughter of the late Durward and Maggie Stephenson Acred. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Danny Acred.

Linda is survived by her devoted husband of 44 years, Larry Joe Ross of Bemis, Tennessee. Larry and Linda were married on Christmas Day, beginning a beautiful life together built on faith, love, and friendship. One of their favorite daily traditions was sharing a cup of coffee while playing gin rummy each morning—a game that Linda usually won.

She also leaves behind her loving children: Chris Smith (Cathy), Dana Patrick, Barry Smith, Chad Ross (Amanda), and Joe Ross (Candace).

Linda was a proud and loving grandmother to Casey and Kelly Patrick, Melinda Smith, Adam and Zack Moulton, Chandler and Cale Smith, Alana Wainscott, Samuel Ross, Caitlyn and Molly Ross, Austin Ross, Brayden Ross (Cassidy), Hayden Ross, and Jayden Ross. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren Ava, Tatum, Ryker Wainscott, Charlie Talley, Isabelle Ross, Waylon, Weston, Oakland, and Rowan Ross. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life, and she loved each of them with all of her heart.

A lifelong resident of the Jackson area, Linda attended Northside High School and retired after many years of dedicated service with Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

Linda found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She never missed a day of reading The Jackson Sun, especially enjoying its crossword puzzles. She loved reading Christian and inspirational books and faithfully shared uplifting messages on Facebook, using it as a way to encourage others and stay connected with the people she loved.

Although our hearts are heavy with her passing, we find comfort in knowing she is now home in Heaven, reunited with her beloved parents, her brother Danny, and the many members of the Acred and Stephenson families who have gone before her. We take peace in the promise that one day we will see her again—sharing a cup of coffee and happily working a crossword puzzle.

Funeral services for Linda Gail Acred Ross will be held at George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. A committal service will immediately follow at Highland Memorial Gardens in Jackson, Tennessee. Rev. Howard Holland of Fort Payne, Alabama, will officiate.
