Sonny Johnson, 81 years old, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2016 after a long illness.Sonny is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Margie Vinson Johnson, daughters Katherine Coats (Eric), Karen Kiddie and son-in-law David Riggs.
4 grandchildren Cain Turner (Amanda), Jennifer Covellis (Chris), Jala Galloway (Jason) and Bethany Anthony (Matt). 4 great grandchildren Cason Galloway, Benjamin and Caroline Covellis and soon to arrive, Wyatt Anthony. He was preceded in death by his daughter Helen Riggs, son-in-law Bill Kiddie and parents L'Wick Overton, Sr. and Maggie Lee Johnson.
Sonny was an Army veteran, machinist, gunsmith and locksmith. He drove the legendary black # 6 sprint car in the West TN dirt track circuit in the 50 & 60's.
Visitation will be on Monday, July 25, 2016 from 12:00 PM until the funeral service at George A. Smith and Sons North Chapel at 2:00 PM with burial to follow at Highland Memorial Gardens.
