Marion White Yarbro

She was born in Jackson in 1930 to Dr Robert White and Marion White (né McCormick).

She graduated Jackson High school and began studies at Bradford College in Haverhill, Massachusetts. She later finished her studies to become a dietician at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She then went to work at the VA hospital in Memphis, Tennessee upon graduation. She returned to Jackson to assume the position of Dietician for the Jackson General Hospital.

Soon after her return home she went on a blind date—arranged by her former latin teacher—with Harold Yarbro who had just returned from service in the Korean War and six months later they were married! “Amor aerturnis!”

They moved to Rochester MN for Harold’s Internal Medicine Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic. Upon completion they returned to Jackson and established themselves with a new home, new baby boy and a new medical practice.

Another boy was born and their home was established and in that home there was much love, nurturing, blood, toil, sweat and tears: also known as life. Marion provided a home like no other and yet like so many. No nonsense and practical yet always with ultimately a soft, knowing and caring environment for the boys. Always leaving just enough ‘rope’ for them to hang themselves and learn a lesson, but a rope that was never far from her loving, watchful protective eye.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold, her sister Stella, brother Robert, parents Robert and Marion White and daughter-in-law Lisa. She leaves two children, Scott and Bruce, daughter-in-law Camille, five grandchildren Scott, Mary Elizabeth, Anna, Camille Marie, Grace, John and four great grand children, Margaret, Charlotte, Sam, and David.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church officiated by The Very Reverend Bruce McMillan. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall at St. Luke’s Church.
