Martha Frances Weaver Laws

She was born on January 9, 1936, in Henderson, Tennessee to the late James W. (Willie) Weaver and Ruth Edna Weaver.

She attended school in Chester County and graduated from high school in 1954. She went on to nursing school at the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, where she studied to become the nurse she had wanted to be since the age of seven.

She started working at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, where she was introduced to the man she would eventually marry while he was visiting his ill grandmother. She married Charles Howell Laws on August 20, 1959.

After the birth of their first child, she left nursing to raise her three children: Julie (Charles) King, Michael (Leah) Laws, and David (Sandra) Laws. After 13 years, she decided to return to nursing and went back to Jackson General Hospital, where she worked another 26 years before retiring in 1998.

She continued her nursing even after retirement by caring for her husband, mother, father, and mother-in-law through their illnesses. As she would often say, “Once a nurse, always a nurse.”

She was preceded in death by her husband; her mother and father; her sister, Nina Weaver Roberts (Wayne); her brother, James W. Weaver; and her granddaughter, Rebecca Leigh King.

Besides her three children, she is survived by four grandchildren: Malorie (Milton) Diaz, Casey (Nastasha) Laws, Cameron (Brittany) Laws, and Joshua Woods. She also leaves six great-grandchildren: Penelope, Addison, and Sebastian Diaz; Ezekiel Laws; and James and Max Laws.

A service to celebrate the life of Martha Frances Laws will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2026 at 11 a.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons with entombment to follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, July 22, 2026 from 5-7 p.m. and again on Thursday beginning at 10 a.m., one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials in Mrs. Laws' memory be directed to the charity of your choice.
