Mildred was born on November 7, 1924 in Uptonville, TN, the daughter of Author and Mamie Robinson. She worked as an L.P.N. “scrub nurse” for many years and ended her professional career as a Head Start Nurse in Jackson City Schools. In retirement, she “kept books” for her husband Raleigh Littrell’s sawmill business, helped with his flea market business, and upon his death, she jointly managed rental property with her oldest son“Buddy” Littrell. She was an active member of West Jackson Baptist Church for nearly 60 years where she served in various roles of leadership. She loved her Sunday School class and continued to serve as a class officer until just 2 years ago when she moved to Jackson Oaks Independent Living.

Mildred Littrell had a servant’s heart, active in Altrusa International for more than 40 years where she served as president for 2 consecutive years as well as various offices and committee chairs, worked as a volunteer for the election commission for over 10 years, member of the Bemis Book Club for more than 30 years, just to name a few. She won a state award for community service for her work with Western State Mental Health Hospital in Bolivar where she hosted parties for children residents each holiday and provided other services.

A quintessential southern belle, she will be remembered by many for her friendship cakes, which she always stocked in the freezer, ready to encourage and uplift at a moment’s notice, her card-playing strategies at Rook, and her dedication to her faith and her dearly loved family. One of her favorite verses speaks to her life. Psalms 1:3, “And (s)he shall be like a tree firmly planted by the streams of living water and bears fruit in each season, whose leaves will not wither, and whatever (s)he does (s)he will prosper.”

Memorials may be directed to West Jackson Baptist Church, 580 Oil Well Rd, Jackson, TN 38305.

The family will receive friends Saturday, May 11 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Sunday, May 12 from 1:00-3:00 at George Smith Funeral Home on North Highland.
