A Graveside service honoring the life of Mrs. Rebecca Lett Arendale, age 87, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Ridgecrest Cemetery, with the Reverends Andy Barlow, Keath Butts and Robert Arendale officiating.
Mrs. Arendale, a nurse and homemaker, who was renowned and respected for her work in local ministries through Evangelical Community Church, and for her support of church missions throughout the world, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital after a short illness.
Born August 14, 1922 in Bradford, TN, she moved to Jackson at age nine and graduated from Jackson High School in 1940. She attended Lambuth University for three years before entering nursing school at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, graduating in 1946.
On June 14, 1946 she married Charles Arendale of Murfressboro, TN, a union that was to last 62 years, until his death in November of 2008. She was a nurse in Champaign-Urbana, IL and returned to Jackson with her husband in 1950.
Mrs. Arendale was a member of the Jackson Garden Club and was an active alumna of Alpha Omicron Pi at Lambuth University. She and her husband were active members of First Christian Church upon returning to Jackson.
The Arendales were founding members of Evangelical Community Church, helping to emphasize missions work, and serving as leaders in the establishment and construction of the current ECC facility on Pipkin Road. Mrs. Arendale was active in the church's Sunday School, prayer team, and missions ministries for many years.
She is survived by her children, Rick Arendale of Nashville and Jane Arendale Barry of Jackson; her grandchildren, Richard and Robert Arendale of Charlotte, NC, John Arendale of Richmond, VA and Brett and Becca Barry of Jackson, and seven great-grandchildren.
