He was born on October 23, 1969 in Menominee, MI to Richard Edward Schnell, Sr. and Jeanne Shampo DePew. He was an electrical engineer for AT&T between 24 and 25 years. He was also an active member, trainer, leader, and ranked officer within the Boy Scouts of America from 2010 to 2021. He was an avid outdoorsmen and lover of nature as well as being a meaningful impact and teacher and mentor on his family and community. While he enjoyed the comforts of his home, he found great pride and joy in the Boy Scouts after introducing his son to the program alongside his son's mother, Melissa Tallman. He touched many lives and was loved by many, especially his family as well as his closest friends in the Boy Scouts, the one part of his life that brought out the best in him and served as a important gift and message for him to pass onto his son, Nickellis.
He is preceded in death by Robert and Lorraine Shampo and Othmar Schnell and Margaret Robeski.
Richard is survived by his only son, Nickellis William Schnell of Jackson; his mother and father, Jeanne and Richard Sr.; his stepfather, Forest DePew; his brothers, Robert, David, and Daniel Schnell; and his sister, Sandra Johnson.
The family will receive friends and loved ones on Thursday, April 8, 2021 from 5-7 p.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 9, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Concord Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Humphreys County, TN.
