Sarah Maddox Johnson, age 71, of Malesus Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Bells Nursing and Rehab in Bells, Tennessee after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

Sarah was born on April 28, 1947 in Paducah, Kentucky to the late J.C. and Amy Maddox. During her childhood years, she lived in Union City, Tennessee and Dyersburg, Tennessee. As a senior in high school, her family moved to Mayfield, Kentucky and she graduated from Mayfield High School in 1965. She then attended Lambuth College.

She married Arthur D. Johnson, Jr in October 1966. She spent her married life in the Malesus community as a homemaker, wife and mother. She was a member of Malesus Baptist Church and active in the local community. She enjoyed working in the yard, visiting with family and friends, interacting with community friends during berry seasons, and spending time with her husband, children and grandson. She leaves her husband of 52 years, Arthur D. Johnson, Jr.; two children: son, Arthur D. Johnson III ("Chip") and wife Christy of Medon, and daughter, Jill Johnson of Malesus; and grandsons, Drew Johnson of Medon, Ben King of Jackson, and Pete King of Medon.

She is also survived by her sister, Sandra Maddox McKnight and husband Joe Nip of Jackson, and her brother, John C. Maddox and wife Teri of Jackson.

Visitation will be held at Malesus Baptist Church in Malesus, Tennessee on Thursday, January 31 from 6-8PM and on Friday February 1 from 10-11am. The funeral service will be conducted at 11am on Friday February 1 at Malesus Baptist Church with interment to follow at Malesus Ebenezer Cemetery.

The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Alzheimer's Association, 699 Oakleaf Office Lane, Memphis TN 38117 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (an organization she supported long-term), 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105 (1-800-822-6344).

The family would also like to thank all the staff at Bells Nursing and Rehabilitation for the amazing care they provided to "Miss Sarah" during her last years, and treating her with love and dignity. We can never thank you enough.
