

She was born May 31, 1942, in Birmingham, Ala. Her parents were Robert and Marie Wilson Parker. She is survived by her daughter, Beth Bartholomew of Memphis; her son-in-law, Joel Bartholomew of Memphis; and her two grandsons, Sam Bartholomew of Nashville, and Andy Bartholomew of Memphis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, in 2003, and her son, Phil, in 2018.
Susan grew up in Jackson, Tenn. She was a 1960 graduate of North Side High School and a 1964 graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. She held a master’s degree from Memphis State University.
She had a long career as a teacher and librarian. She taught at Pope Elementary School and Parkway Junior High School and was librarian at Parkview Elementary School and Jackson Central Merry High School. She was working at JCM when she retired.
Susan was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Jackson. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, spending time with her family, and reading. She continued living in Jackson until a few years after her husband’s death. She lived the last years of her life in Memphis to be near her children and grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at Highland Memorial Gardens with George A. Smith and Sons North Chapel in charge.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 from 10-11 am at Kirby Pines Retirement Community, 3535 Kirby Road, in Memphis.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis or to Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Jackson.
