Thomas Pink Hatchett Jr.

Thomas Pink “Tommy” Hatchett, Jr., was born on February 29, 1936, in the Life Community near Lexington, Tennessee. He passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2026, leaving behind a beautiful legacy of hard work, faith, service, and unwavering devotion to his family and community.

Tommy was born to the late Thomas Pink Hatchett, Sr. and Martha Byrd Hatchett. He graduated from Lexington High School in 1956 and went on to spend forty dedicated years working for BellSouth as a cable repair technician. A man of deep faith, Tommy was a longtime and devoted member of East Union Baptist Church.

Tommy’s love for young people, baseball, and his community was evident throughout his many years of service to Little League Baseball and Softball. He served as a Little League Baseball coach for many years before dedicating more than twenty years serving as the Administrator for District 1 Little League Baseball throughout West Tennessee. His passion for the game took him to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, where he attended the Little League World Series for many years. For Tommy, Little League was about so much more than baseball. It was an opportunity to mentor young people, build character, encourage others, and make a lasting difference in their lives.

Tommy was also deeply committed to serving his community. He served as President and was an active member of the East Union Ruritan Club and the Jackson Lions Club. Through his many years of volunteer service, he generously gave his time, energy, and talents to help others and make his community a better place.

In addition to his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by his siblings, Sue Hatchett Wall and Clyde Hatchett.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Carolyn Smith Hatchett; his children, Lisa Spencer and husband Brady of Nashville, Tennessee, Cheryl Cochran and husband Greg of Savannah, Tennessee, and Keith Hatchett and wife Kim of Jackson, Tennessee; his five grandchildren, Nicholas Spencer, Alexandra Spencer, Shelby Hatchett, Brandon Hatchett, and Bailey Hatchett; and his sister, Jean Hatchett Johnson.

Tommy’s family was the greatest joy of his life. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother whose love, guidance, and example will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He gave his family a lifetime of memories, lessons, laughter, and love. His influence reached far beyond his home, touching the lives of the countless young people he coached, the people he served alongside, and the many friends he made throughout his life.

Visitation will be held on Friday evening, September 18, 2026, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home. The family will also receive friends at 10:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service, on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the funeral home.

A service to celebrate Tommy’s life will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home. Tommy loved bright colors, so in celebration of his life and his colorful spirit, family and friends are welcome to wear their favorite colors to his Celebration of Life.

Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery in the Life Community of Lexington, Tennessee.

Serving as pallbearers are Nicholas Spencer, Brandon Hatchett, Brady Spencer, Joel Hatchett, Colton Hatchett, Bill Johnson, and Tommy Frazier.

Tommy will be lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His legacy of faith, kindness, service, and love will live on through the family he leaves behind, the young people he encouraged, and the countless lives he made brighter along the way. Though he is deeply missed, the love he gave, the lessons he taught, and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
