William Curtis Blancq

Born on July 18, 1954, in Memphis, Tennessee, Butch was the son of the late John Paul Blancq IV and Mary Ann Hewlett Blancq. He was raised in the Frayser community, where he attended Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School and Memphis Catholic High School. An exceptional student with a lifelong love of learning, Butch remained devoted to his Catholic faith throughout his life and proudly served for many years as a member of the Knights of Columbus.

From an early age, Butch possessed a remarkable curiosity about the world around him. He developed a passion for astronomy, spending countless nights gazing at the stars through his telescope. He also enjoyed reading, building model rockets, photography, and listening to music—interests that reflected his inquisitive spirit and creative mind.

A gifted technician, Butch worked as a low-voltage electronics specialist before following in his father’s footsteps as a clockmaker, or horologist. He spent many years working alongside his father at ACME Sales Company, where he became known for his precision and craftsmanship. Later, he established his own business specializing in home electronic systems. Whether repairing intricate clocks or solving complex electronic problems, Butch had an extraordinary talent for understanding how things worked.

Above all, Butch cherished his family. He shared 35 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Helen, and found great joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved science fiction, astronomy, classic cars, music, and creating home movies that preserved precious family memories. Always willing to lend a helping hand, he was known for his kindness, generosity, strength, and wonderful sense of humor. His gentle spirit and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Helen Blancq; his daughter, Jessica R. Blancq of Long Beach, Mississippi; his son, Barry A. Blancq and wife, Sally, of Germantown, Tennessee; his cherished grandchildren, Kelsie Wright, Megan Abbott, Amelia Blancq, Freeman Blancq, Smith Blancq, and Luke Blancq; his great-granddaughter, Ava Trehern; and his brothers, John A. “Bubba” Blancq and wife, Terry Sue, and Barry S. Blancq and wife, Della.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Paul Blancq IV and Mary Ann Hewlett Blancq.

Butch will be remembered for his brilliant mind, unwavering faith, generous heart, and deep love for his family. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched through his kindness, wisdom, and quiet strength. Though he will be greatly missed, his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
