Fluke meant more to me than you all probably know. He and I would talk and visit for hours, as you know, about music, Carl, Johnny, and his memories of working with all the great musicians he recorded with. What I cherished more than anything was his friendship, his time, and learning about his boat racing, his dad, and all of you. We laughed a lot, me and Fluke, and we got serious a time or two but we always just enjoyed each other’s company.  

I was proud to have him join me several times in He Wore Black, a Johnny Cash Tribute show and how much he influenced that  production and the vision.  

This photo is one of my favorites of me and him. Taken in Folsom, CA.  It was one of our serious moments. I loved Fluke, I will miss him, but I know I will see him again.

WS "Fluke"Holland was one of my closest traveling companions for 20 of the over the 45 years we have known each other. His jovial attitude a solid advice kept my spirits up and and my worries low while I went thru some of the hardest days of my life mentally and spiritually. He was my Guru! He never charged me either. 
I always marveled at how he and Joyce worked together all these years to have a wonderful family and and maintained a lifestyle that most musicians and their families do not ever get to enjoy when it comes to saving and prospering and having a loving and close-knit family.  They really showed the rest of us how it can be done if the right two people fall in love and hang in there together. They had a great plan. Fluke did all the mowing and repairing around the ranch and Joyce did all the cooking and there was always a well mowed yard and something good to eat on the table at the Holland house. My heart reaches out to Joyce and Kim, Krista, Ben,  Lindsey and the rest of the family and all the other family members and friends and the lovers of the great music  American he left behind for us to enjoy for many years. 

We extend our sympathy and prayers to the family for God's comfort and peace.  We enjoyed the times we got to hear W. S. Holland play and share his stories.  He would always cut up with my husband when he came in to shop at Lowes.  We know his life touched many in various ways through the years and as a family we know you have so many special memories that will live on in your hearts.

Dear Family & Friends of WS Holland,

My sincere sympathies to each of you at this most difficult time.

As a musician (guitar player), I grew up listening and learning Johnny Cash songs. My eyes and ears were affixed to the wonderful sounds of the legendary Tennessee Two and Three, and also other wonderful musicians who added their greatness to live concerts and recordings throughout the years.

I thank God for sharing WS Holland's gift of music for all to enjoy.   His heart and soul was in his drumming, and that will live on and on each time we play the many records and videos.

May God's peace and comfort fill each heart that is sad. In Christ Jesus.
Rejoice in knowing, that all of the Tennessee Two and Three are together again..Luther Perkins, Marshall Grant, Bob Wootton, plus, Carl Perkins and the Carter Family. Johnny is leading them in song!

WS was a dear friend and fellow musician. Not only was he a great  drummer but also a great gentleman . He will be missed by many of us. I had the honor to give him a Proclamation on the House Floor of The Tennessee General Assembly a few years back. I am saddened to hear about the passing of WS "Fluke" Holland, Father Of The Drums. He was a fantastic drummer. I always enjoyed listening to him play with Johnny Cash. The music world lost an icon yesterday. Today the world is a little quieter without the beat of Flukes drums. Rest In Peace. Godspeed to you, Mr. Holland.

Very sad to hear of your passing Mr. Holland. Johnny cash was my first artist in country music that I got into. And your drumming was the first I’ve heard in country. The music you created on the drum set will never be forgotten and the memories you gave me and will continue to give me is appreciated. Rest in piece sir. 

My wife  Ann and I are very sad to hear of the passing of W.S. It was our privilege to visit him at his home in 2002, when I was making a BBC Radio documentary marking 50 years of Sun Records  and I recorded an interview with him. We spent a great couple of hours talking , where he answered all my questions and was so generous with his time. I was especially amazed  to be shown some of his incredible memorabilia from a life in music,  going back to the very shoes he wore when first on stage with Carl.  A lovely gesture was when I told him our son was a drummer and he gave me a pair of sticks for him. A truly great drummer and a lovely kind person. Our sincere condolences go to Mrs Holland and all his family.

We lived near WS for years off Christmasville Rd.  A beautiful place he and his family had there. . I left the area many years back but always remember my first home. I knew W S when I was married and lived in Jackson.  He was an awesome drummer.  We ran into each other at Johnny Cash's birthday bash several years ago when he was there with Ron Haney. I met WS A Few years ago when he use to race boats at his pond on Christmasville Road in Jackson,Tn.  I had the Privilege  of going over to his present home in North Jackson, and I got to fill in on drums in his band. At The Delta Fair I’m Memphis A Few Years Ago. I’ve Enjoyed his Friendship. Will miss Him. 

My deepest condolences to all those left behind. I had the pleasure and honour of meeting 'Fluke' a couple of times in the UK. He was a true gentleman and for me remains a part of my musical heritage. R.I.P Fluke
