Surrounded by her large and loving family, Adrienne Carolyn Flynn Hollis, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on September 26, 2026, at the age of 95. This date of September 26, is also the birthday of her precious husband, Austin Olander Hollis, Sr and the birthday of her firstborn Grandaughter, Stacie Carolyn Prosser.
Mom was born in Jacksonville, Florida to Everett and Florence Flynn which began the great journey of her lifetime. Mom was raised in the Springfield area of Jacksonville back when it was considered a small town. She walked or rode her bike to St. Josephs Academy for years where she excelled at sports and academics, she even skipped two grades. After graduation she was enrolled to attend the University of Florida to study to be a teacher. However, faith intervened and she met a most handsome Marine from Fairfax, Alabama named “Bud”, a name she did not like and thought it was a beer. Everyone in Alabama knew him as “Bud”. She asked what his given name was and he said Austin. Soon after “Bud” disappeared and Austin became his name which is carried by first son, Grandson and Great Grandson.
Mom and Dad were Blessed with 7 children which resulted with over 130 descendants including spouses. What a legacy to leave!!! There are no words to express the love that she had for her 7 children, Sheila, Audie, Mary Patrice, Doug, Curt, Clay and Kristin; 24 Grandchildren, countless Great Grandchildren and even a few Great Great Grandchildren with more on the way. The were the greatest pride of her life. She always knew everyone’s birthdays and prayed daily for her family. She was our go to when we needed prayers for anything because we knew she had a line straight to God. Mom was one hard working woman and raised us kids, tended to an ever growing home, and rode her bike to the Mail Street Drive In to work in the concessions and then rode back home at midnight. They kept us fed and Dad provided the discipline with 4 rascally boys. Daddy worked during the day as an underground electrician for the City of Jacksonville.
We never got tied of all the fun we had camping at Ocean Pond, Gold Head State Park and White Sand Lake. We had a tent that slept 8, a boat, skis and a Dad that loved to play. Mom on the other hand was taking care of the latest child addition, cooking and keeping the Moccasins away from her brood! She never once complained and was always jolly and we had such a great and wonderful childhood provided by two special people.
She and Dad learned to ballroom danced, taught all their friends and away they all went on the weekends to have a blast. These friendships lasted a lifetime, as they all bought tents to camp with us. The memories are many and very special to all us kids. Wow but how we all miss those special days of a fun filled childhood. Not only was she brilliantly smart but she was also the prettiest mom, much like a model.
She never let us miss mass on Sundays, Catechism on Saturday or Holy Days of Obligation. We were so bad at church, especially Audie, that we had to be separated and still managed to get into trouble. Lord of mercy I can’t tell you how many times she took one of us outside to enforce her no cutting up in church edict. Audie and Curt have a flat behind to this day!
I remember Dad drove 20 miles an hours every Sunday to get to church and were late every Sunday, so often, that the priest commented about it from the pulpit. Oh how humiliating that was especially to Sheila our older and more sophisticated sister! The boys thought it was fun.
Mom had two rules, unspoken, but lived: Love the Lord with all your being and love others and boy did she live out that Mantra. She was a beautiful people magnet and all who knew her fell in love, a most beautiful woman inside and out and even enjoyed having our friends as part of our family.
Mom decided she and Dad could build a home because the boys were getting so big in our little home that they needed more space. She purchased a self help instruction book and away they went, moving from Northside to Mandarin, where they, along with the boys built a lovely two story home. The only part of the home they did not do was the brick, what an achievement!
She and Dad raised their children to be fair, loving and kind and that legacy just continues to grow and grow. She will be missed by many and our hearts are still breaking but we know that she is rejoicing in Heaven with her glorified body, being with Dad and our little sister Tricie. Her crown has so many jewels, all sparkling bright, just as she is and always did on this earth.
We feel that when she finally met her Savior His first words to her were, “well done my good and faithful servant.”
Mom, we love you and our hearts are heavy but the Blessings you gave us will live on in our lives and the lives of all our families.
For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son that whoever believed in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life John 3:16
Friends and Family, we would like to express our gratitude for your sympathy and support during this time of sorrow. The prayers, thoughtfulness and kind gestures have been felt by us all and will always be remembered
