

He served as a Lieutenant Commander in the U. S. Navy Medical Corps and continued his medical practice of Ophthalmology in Jacksonville since 1964- and retired in 1993. Dr. Honig served as Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at: the U. S. Naval Hospital, Jacksonville; Memorial Hospital, Jacksonville; Methodist Hospital, Jacksonville ; and Shands Jacksonville. He was a Fellow of The American College of Surgeons, as well as a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology; and served as President of the Duval County Ophthalmology Society. Dr. Honig was a founding member of the Beth-El At The Beaches Synagogue and served as President of the Synagogue. His talent as a Jazz Pianist was known to close friends and Professional Musicians and his Lifelong love of music, medicine and his family will always be remembered. He was a dedicated and loving husband to his wife of 54 years, Nancy. He adored his children, their spouses and his grandchildren and showed it by telling stories and teaching them constantly and consistently all the details of being a good person by his constant example, patience, love and support.
Survivors include, his wife Nancy, his children, David (Miriam) Honig, Lisa (Michael) Puder, Susan (Hugh) Coleman, Karen(Phil) Ladman. His grandchildren, Steven, Sammy, Rachel, Laina, Max, Emily, Jake, Eli, Chase, Lindsay and Adam. His Sister, Phyllis (Milton) Gevertz of Miami. And loving Nieces and Nephews.
Services will be held at Beth-El the Beaches Synagogue at 11:00am on Sunday, February 16 with Rabbi Michael Matuson as officiant. The Burial to Follow in the Etz Chaim section of Arlington Park Cemetery on Lone Star Road.
