Allen proudly served his country in the United States Army, Corps of Engineers. This was followed by a 45 year career in civil engineering. Allen was extremely proud of his second 10 year "retirement" career as a bailiff with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at the Duval County Courthouse. He was a member of the Jacksonville Jewish Center since 1974. His passion and "home away from home" was River Garden Hebrew Home where he served as a volunteer and a President of the Board of Directors.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Gray Thompson, Jacksonville, FL; son, Jonathan Gray (Kelly), Wilmington, NC; sister, Susan Perl (Erwin), Chatsworth, CA; grandchildren, Maxwell Gray, Claire Thompson, and Jacob Yaksich. He is also mourned by his nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 20th in Evergreen Cemetery (New Center), 4535 Main Street, Jacksonville with Rabbi Jonathan Lubliner of Jacksonville Jewish Center as Officiant.
