Almeta was born on March 1,1930 in White Springs, FL. She was the first born to her parents William and Emmie Crews.
Though her close friends and family called her Al, she was known by many endearing names: momma, memaw, nanny, grandma, ennie, Mrs. Williams, Almeta, meter, and Al.
She moved into her first home in 1953 where she and her husband Paul broke ground and built a new home for their growing family. They lived in this home for over 50 years with great memories including Almeta’s famous Sunday fried chicken dinners, summer visits from family, children playing and boisterous laughter throughout the house.
Over the years Almeta became know by her neighbors as someone they could count on for advice on anything from babies to home remedies, or just to sit around the table and have a cup of coffee and a good laugh. It has been said by those who love and knew her that they don’t make women like that anymore.
Almeta was preceded in death by her husband Paul Williams, her son Fred Williams, and her daughter Sharon Hilton. Almeta is survived by her children Paul Williams Jr. (Kathy), Karen Janckila (Graham), Teri Gormley, Rodney Williams (Shannon) and her longtime companion Frank Horton. She was also blessed to have 12 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren. Surviving siblings are Johnny Crews, and Shirley Grosso (Bob).
Funeral Services will be held at 12 Noon on Monday, January 31st, inside the Chapel of Hardage-Giddens Greenlawn Funeral Home, followed by interment in Greenlawn Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207, with Corey Booth as Officiant.
