Andre I. Khuri passed into eternal life on August 30, 2017, surrounded by his family, after an extended battle with cancer. He was born in Damascus, Syria on March 1, 1940 to Elias Khuri and Rosette Shami. He received his early education in Damascus, graduating from Damascus University before going to the American University of Beirut. He then pursued a PhD in mathematics from the University of Florida, graduating in 1969. He and Ronnie married in 1970 and moved to the Middle East for a few years before he decided to return to the US and further his studies at Virginia Polytechnic University. After finishing a PhD in statistics in 1976, he and Ronnie moved to the University of Florida, where he spent the rest of his career, retiring as full professor after 31 years. He was a prolific author, having published over 100 journal articles, as well as seven books. He was a fellow of ASA, fellow of AAAS, and elected member of ISI. He served as editor of several statistical journals. In addition to his work, he loved history, international politics, and astronomy.
His greatest passion, however, was for his family and he is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ronnie; his son, Marcus Khuri and wife Azusa; his daughter, Roxanne Louh and husband Nicholas; grandchildren, George and Gabriella Louh, and Cynthia and Clara Khuri.
Services will be held at St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church in Jacksonville. Trisagion on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at 6PM. Funeral services will be on Monday, September 4, 2017 at 11 AM followed by burial in Oaklawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John the Divine towards the building of the new church.
