Andreas (Andy) Roelf Shaaber was born June 24, 1928 in Jacksonville, Florida. He died peacefully at home, according to his wishes, on June 21, 2018 after a brief illness. He was educated in the local schools and following service in the Army Air Corps during WWII, he enrolled at the University of Florida, earning a Jurist Doctor degree. He was awarded the Gertrude Brick Memorial award and membership in the legal honor society, Delta Theta Phi. He was a member of the Florida Bar Association for over 50 years and was one of the final tenants in the Old Barnet Bank Building.
He was a “True Blue” member of the Phi Delta Theta, a past Captain and King of Ye Mystic Revellers, a Founding Life Member of Epping Forest Yacht Club and a Gold Member of Ponte Vedra Inn and Club. An active Episcopalian, he served his church as a Senior Warden, Vestryman and at the time of his illness as Usher.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Eletha M. Shaaber and sister, Regina Riley. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret (Peggy) Tarver Shaaber and their children, all of Jacksonville: daughter, Allison Shaaber Bryan and her husband Randall and their children, Allison Jordan Bryan and T. R. Bryan; V and his wife Melissa and their daughter, Brooklyn; son, Steven Andrew Shaaber and his wife Jhan and their sons, Riley, Bryson and Jenner Shaaber; daughter, Andrea Shaaber Lockard and her husband Lee and their children Hunter Tillman, Madison Tillman and Kendall Lockard; son, Preston Shaaber and his children Lauren Shaaber and Jonathan Butler Shaaber.
He will be remembered as a man of great integrity, who practiced law with honor and dignity. His word was his bond, a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He was deeply loved by his family, and was in return a loving husband, father and grandfather.
A service of Christian Burial will be held at San Jose Episcopal Church on Monday, June 25, 2018 at 11:00am. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.
