

On September 29, 2021, Ann Franklin (MicKunas) Chappell peacefully passed away in her daughter's home in Beverly Hills, FL at the age of 88. Ann was one of seven children born in Middletown, Jefferson County, Kentucky on January 20, 1933 to Durwood B. Franklin and Dorothy Hansbrough Franklin. Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Edward T. Chappell; her parents and siblings, Betty Lee, Durwood Jr, Alice, Johnny, Judy and Jesse. Ann attended St. Petersburg High School, Class of 1951 and St. Petersburg Junior College. She married her high school sweetheart, Victor H. MicKunas and completed her studies graduating with a teaching degree from the University of South Florida. She taught music in Highlands, Duval and Pinellas County school systems, grades 1-12 and also directed the Union Congregational Church Choir in Avon Park for many years. After marrying Ed Chappell in 1980, she took early retirement to raise two beautiful step-grandchildren, Richard and Shae. In her later years, she also organized and directed a singing group known as the "The New Notes" in Jacksonville, FL. She is survived by her three children, son Victor H. MicKunas, Jr., M.D. and wife, Karen and two grandchildren; daughter, Kathy MicKunas Gaskill and husband, Warren; son, John M. MicKunas, and wife, Tracye, two grandchildren and six great grandchildren including numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her step-daughter, Kathy Powell and husband, Rob; two adopted grandchildren, Richard Chappell; Shae Chappell Frus and husband, Kevin and one great grandchild, step-daughter, Jeanne Edenzon and husband, Rob and two step-grandchildren. Anne's love for music inspired many of her students to continue a career in music. She created several choral groups along the way and was involved in many musical productions throughout her teaching career.
