Anna Mary Reneer, 89, passed from this life on Sunday, August 9, 2020, while in the loving care of Community Hospice Of NE Florida in Jacksonville and with her daughter by her side. Anna was born in Philadelphia, PA but spent the last 37 years in Jacksonville.
In addition to being a loving mother and grandmother, Anna was a longtime employee of the Clay County School System, a Member of the Navy Wives Club of America for 50 years, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve, and a member of the Ladies Guild at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. In addition to being an active member of these organizations over the years, she actively joined and promoted other organizations and charitable foundations (too many to name). Most of all, she was a lady of leisure who enjoyed monthly luncheons with her friends and going to the base to play bingo. She was a woman always on the go who would do anything for others.
Although she did not die of COVID-19, her passing was the result of the additional effects of the virus on the elderly. Thanks to the federal government’s failure to take the virus seriously from the start and take steps to minimize the spread, then the irresponsible decisions by state and local government to open the city and state too soon, plus the people who don’t take it seriously and take precautions, the virus spread more and continued to limit activity, particularly for the elderly. This ultimately extended her inability to re-join her friends in the activities they love. She unfortunately passed with a feeling of hopelessness of ever being able to safely go out and be with her friends again.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Randall Kenneth Reneer, and recently by her sister Jean White and brother-in-law, Dave White of Maple Glen, Pa. Others she will be joining in her journey include her brother Louis Manzo of Lansdale, Pa and her parents Louis and Lillian Gillingham Manzo of Philadelphia, PA. Anna is survived by her daughter, Lisa Reneer of Jacksonville, grandson Randall A Reneer (Rebekah Lindborg) of Clermont, Fl, granddaughter Lauren Gott of Atlantic Beach, FL, a brother, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She will also be missed by her furry great grandchildren Riley, Echo, Elthea, Flash and Shadow, and Odie. The family would like to thank Community Hospice Hadlow Center for her care and family friends Lisa and Tony Rulli for coming and spending time with the family as we were reminiscing and trying to bring her comfort with our presence.
Due to COVID-19, for the safety of friends and family, we will be limiting the arrangements but will plan on having a larger celebration of her life in 2021, hopefully in April when she would have turned 90. In the meantime, the family will welcome those who would like to pay their respects to visitation at the Hardage Giddens Funeral home in Mandarin, 11801 San Jose Blvd on Sunday, August 16th from 3pm to 5pm. Face masks will be required and physical distancing strongly encouraged. Anna will be interred with her husband at the National Cemetery in Jacksonville. For safety, the services there will only be for family and select invited friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family would encourage donations be made in her memory to the American Heart Association, Community Hospice of NE Florida, the Humane Society, Wounded Warrior Project or any organization helping those impacted by Covid-19. Rest In Peace mom, give dad my love.
