Anne Page Coachman Daniel (Pagie) died on Dec. 23rd, after a brief illness. She was born on March 8, 1920, in Jacksonville, FL, to Eleanor Randolph Willcox and Walter Fossine Coachman, Jr. After graduating from National Cathedral School and Holton Arms Junior College, both in Washington, DC, she returned home to Jacksonville, where she was a member of the Jacksonville Debutante Coterie of 1940-1941. In 1947, she married Jaquelin James Daniel, former Publisher of The Florida Times-Union. Mrs. Daniel was the former President of the Ladies Auxiliary of Duval Medical Center (now UF Shands Hospital), and very active in Learn To Read, Inc. She was also a longtime member of The National Society of The Colonial Dames in the State of Florida, a member of the Late Bloomers Garden Circle, and a faithful member of The Wednesday Club, her group of childhood friends who met for lunch in each other's homes every single week for sixty years to discuss life and their children, not necessarily in that order. She was also a member of the The Junior League of Jacksonville. In the 1980s, she served as a Board Member of The Jacksonville Art Museum, which is now the Jacksonville Museum of Modern Art. Mrs. Daniel was a talented and accomplished artist. Working with various textiles, she created one of a kind, hand stitched Wall Hangings, many of which are in private collections. She was an avid reader, gardener and writer; a free thinker and a free spirit, with a special flair all her own. In the 1950s, she studied Creative Writing with her mentor, Andrew Lytle, at the University of Florida. She later joined a writers' group in Jacksonville. In 2004, she moved to Vicar's Landing, where she pursued her love of writing, often reading her poetry or writing short plays. Mrs. Daniel especially loved the St. John's River and the mountains of Western North Carolina. Before moving to Vicar's Landing, she could be seen taking her large gentle dog for its daily neighborhood walk. She was a longtime member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, where she was a member of the Intercessory Prayer Group. Later she was a communicant of Christ Church in Ponte Vedra. Mrs. Daniel is survived by her daughters, Eleanor Daniel Colledge (Shepherd), Jaquelin Daniel Cook; grandchildren Emily Pepper (Cole), Page Haughton, Mary Glyn Denning (Justin), Chrissie Catto (Brandon) and Reese McCranie (Dr. Nicholas Church). A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 6th, at 11:00 o'clock at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 4129 Oxford Ave. Memorials may be sent to St. Marks Episcopal Church, 4129 Oxford Ave, Jax, FL, 32210, or to Daniel Memorial, 4203 Southpoint Blvd, Jax, FL, 32216.
